The rotten luck of the men’s draw at the Mutua Madrid Open continued Friday in cutting short the second semifinal seven games into the encounter.

This time, Jiri Lehecka was forced to stop his maiden ATP Masters 1000 semifinal with Felix Auger

Lehecka had received a mid-match retirement during his quarterfinal when Daniil Medvedev threw in the towel down 6-4. The No. 3 seed picked up an adductor injury early in their clash and also tried to play on post treatment.

For Auger-Aliassime, he previously saw Jakub Mensik stop playing in the third round with a right-elbow issue. After ousting Barcelona champion Casper Ruud, the former world No. 6 then received a walkover in the quarterfinals from top seed Jannik Sinner, who opted not to risk further injury to his right hip.

A new men’s champion will be crowned Sunday, as Auger-Aliassime meets Andrey Rublev. The seventh seed halted Taylor Fritz’s bid with a 6-4, 6-3 victory.
