NCAA Div II Championships

It was new territory for one and a streak for another, but both the men's and women's teams from Armstrong Atlantic State  University claimed titles at this year's NCAA Division II Championships at the Memorial Park Tennis Center, hosted by Rice University.

Armstrong Atlantic Men NCAA08The Armstrong Atlantic men went through the entire season undefeated and top-ranked in the last three months.  It was a new experience for them and it
led them to the team's very first national championship.  Just as they had all year, the Pirates kept the streak going and took their first NCAA Division II team trophy home with a 5-0 victory over the fifth-ranked Barry.

Armstrong Atlantic Women NCAA08For the Pirate women, the winners' circle was nothing new.  The AASU women took the school's fourth championship with a 5-2 win over Lynn University. It was actually a tiebreak point at doubles that was credited with the momentum to carry the Armstrong Atlantic State women.  Their last title was in 2005 and before that they had also won in 1995 and 1996.

The dual titles for Armstrong Atlantic State marks the first time that has happened since BYU-Hawaii did it in 2003.
