The Pitch: The Wilson Pro Staff Six.One 100 BLX—like the Pro Staff Six.One 90 and 95 BLX—features basalt fibers, proprietary material made from natural volcanic rock that is woven into the frame to resist vibration. On off-center hits, Wilson claims, basalt filters out unwanted, jarring frequencies before they reach the hand, delivering cleaner feedback for better feel. The Pro Staff also includes the Amplifeel handle system, which places inserts made from basalt and graphite inside the handle for additional comfort and better feel. Moreover, Amplifeel handles include a softer butt cap and foam that molds to the hand for a more customized grip.

How It Tested: Accomplished all-court players with longer swings who like the classic, exacting feel of the Pro Staff Six.One 95 but find its heft too much to bear should consider its more forgiving cousin, the Six.One 100. Playtesters reported that the Six.One’s larger head size, light weight and low swingweight allowed them to generate more than ample racquet-head speed, which translated into more power and spin. Said one 4.0 playtester, “I liked it immediately. Its thinner beam offered control. I felt like I got good access to topspin as well as slice—at the baseline and transitioning to the net.” Playtesters also noted that the stick felt very stable all over the court, which was surprising given its sub-11-ounce weight. Although some 4.5 players felt the racquet was “a bit too light” for their tastes, many said that, with a beam thin enough for a more advanced player’s stick, the Six.One is “an ideal candidate for customization.” As one playtester commented, “The racquet is responsive: When you miss, you know why you missed.”

Bottom Line: A versatile and quick-swinging racquet for strong intermediate all-courters.
