Final Analysis: The update to the 1004, the New Balance 1005 is manufactured with Acteva Ultra Lite, a cushioning material that absorbs shock without added weight, according to the company. The 1005 also features S-Curve technology, which includes a reinforced TPU wrap in the outsole for greater stability during quick changes of direction, as well as a breathable mesh upper constructed with straps that hug the waist of the foot for further support. Weartesters did, in fact, find the shoe to be well ventilated, relatively comfortable and stable for its very light weight. Weartesters also liked that the 1005 required little, if any, break-in time. Finally, weartesters with wider feet and/or foot pathologies loved that the 1005 came in a variety of widths. Although the 1005 is best suited to club players with neutral foot types, those who fit the bill will be the beneficiaries of the shoe’s terrific 12-month outsole guarantee.
