Release Date: January 4, 2013
Facts: Naming a shoe “Durable” is a bit like nicknaming a boxer "Rocky"—you better be tough—and Yonex says this shoe is built to last. The endurance rubber herringbone outsole has deeper channels in its treads, and Yonex claims this design “provides better contact with ground and increases durability by 20 percent.”
The brand’s “round sole” feature is built to aid maneuverability by eliminating sharp edges that can sometimes cause speedy players to roll their ankles when changing direction abruptly. The synthetic leather upper is built to enhance breathability and decrease weight. Like the brand’s other new 2013 shoe entry, the Power Cushion Light, the Power Cushion Durable features the new three-layer Power Cushion technology in the midsole and insole. Yonex claims this absorbs "30 percent more shock" than the original Power Cushion and contributes to the lightness.
The Durable is a unisex shoe offered in red and black; and white and blue. Men’s sizes are 4-11.5, 12, and 13; and women’s sizes are 5.5-13. Our size 11 sample weighed 13.2 oz.
Impressions: This is a sharp-looking shoe incorporating Yonex’s traditional red-and-black color scheme in a striking cosmetic. While there is no single superlative feature that distinguishes it from the most recent Power Cushion entries, the Power Cushion Durable is nearly an ounce lighter and costs $10 less than the brand’s new Power Cushion Light.
This is a relatively light shoe, which feels comfortable and is ready to wear right out of the box, requiring no break-in time. Does the shoe live up to its “Durable” title? Our shoe expert, Dr. David Sharnoff, and wear-testers are currently testing it, so stay tuned for a full review on the shoe’s endurance.
