The Pitch
Racquet of choice for Rafael Nadal and Jo- Wilfried Tsonga, the Babolat Aeropro Drive has been updated with Cortex Active Technology. C.A.T. links the handle and frame with the Cortex Damping System, which, according to Babolat, improves feedback by filtering out unwanted vibrations. The Aeropro Drive also features a new handle design, which further improves feel by directing essential vibrations through areas of the grip closest to players’ hands. And like its predecessors, the Drive is constructed with Aero Modular Technology, varying beam profiles that the company claims increases aerodynamics and players’ swing speeds.

How It Tested
The Babolat Aeropro Drive is a rigid and powerful tool, tailored for all manner of grinders and power baseliners. “This is not a warm and fuzzy racquet,” said Tennis Racquet Advisor Bruce Levine. “The feedback is solid. It’s for players who want to stand back and rip away.” Accomplished playtesters agreed, commending the Aeropro for its power and stability on serves and in hard, heavy backcourt exchanges, even on balls hit near the tip of the frame. Playtesters, especially those with Western- and semi-Western style grips, also found plenty of success imparting spin with the racquet’s open string pattern.

Bottom Line
A delight for practiced, Western-style players focused on crushing the ball off the ground.
