The Pitch
Racquet of choice for Maria Sharapova, the Head YouTek Instinct MP has beenupgraded with Graphene, one of the world’s strongest and lightest materials. With a breaking strength 200 times greater than steel, Graphene is integrated into the racquet’s shaft, increasing its strength and reducing its weight, according to the company. Head claims that this new material has allowed for a fundamental redistribution of weight toward the ends of the racquet, resulting in more maneuverability and power.

How It Tested
Stiffer than the Speed MP, with plenty of power, a generous sweet spot and an open string pattern, the YouTek Instinct MP has all the trappings of a racquet built for nononsense, power-baseline play. While some net-rushers and all-courters said the MP’s response, especially at net, was too harsh and lacking in finesse for their tastes, other playtesters, particularly backcourt specialists, felt right at home. Noted one 3.5 player, “It’s sleek and smooth. I liked getting into baseline rallies.” True to its tweener specifications, the Instinct received favorable reviews not just from 3.5s, but from a wide range of accomplished club- and tournament-level players, all with tastes for rigid, maneuverable frames.

Bottom Line
A reliable stick for intermediate to advanced players regularly involved in baseline slugfests.
