Asics’ fully loaded flagship shoe—a popular choice among pros—should suit everyone from the frequent player to the casual hacker who simply craves the look: The Gel-Resolution 5 comes in six different color combinations. This versatile shoe is at home on hard or clay courts, thanks to traction from a high-abrasion rubber outsole. The PGuard toe protector reinforces the tip of the shoe to safeguard toe draggers, and a personal heel fit system lines two layers of “memory foam” in the collar to mold to your feet, creating a better fit. Stability scored highly as the shoe’s best feature —this is a secure and maneuverable shoe on all surfaces. Though the Gel-Resolution 5 offers a true fit for both men and women, the shoe’s width was rated as its worst feature by women, several of whom said it felt too narrow. Some men weartesters said the shoe felt “less plush” than prior versions. Overall, it’s a successful upgrade of Asics’ franchise shoe, which withstands the pounding physical players can impose.
