Adidas Tennis adds to its Art Pack footwear collection with the Barricade 2017 Minimalism ($150) and Ubersonic 3 Jade ($140), both colorful and sans color examples of playing with design on two of the brand’s most popular performance tennis models.
The Barricade 2017 Minimalism (right) inspired its name with a simplistic design that avoids distraction. The men’s sneaker was completely stripped back, resulting in an extremely clean version of the on-court silhouette.
The Ubersonic 3 Jade (above) takes inspiration from the Chinese analogy: “Jade, without chiseling, cannot become a useful object.” As a common talisman for good luck, the jade design incorporates color and print into the lightweight women’s shoe.
“When the best tennis players take to the court, they bring with them their own styles and traditions,” says Alex Chan, director of Adidas Tennis. “With the two new additions to the Art Pack we wanted to pay homage to two unique concepts of art and design—the notion of minimalism and also looking into the cultural importance of jade in art. Taking these design concepts, we have reimagined our iconic tennis franchises—Barricade and Ubersonic. These limited-edition versions will stand out on court both visually and in regard to performance.”
The Barricade Minimalism launched on Oct. 6 and the Ubersonic Jade will debut on Oct. 20.
