Asics has updated its popular Solution Speed franchise with a new style of foam specifically designed for the court. The Solution Speed FF—which stands for FlyteFoam—released on July 20, combines a mix of Asics technologies to help improve stability in what the company considers its lightweight, speed option.
The court-specific FlyteFoam midsole, about 35 percent lighter than a typical EVA foam, and more durable than the running style of FlyteFoam, uses reinforced fibers for what Asics calls “lightweight and continuous cushioning.” With more side-to-side and back-force motion in tennis, engineers needed to use the fibers to provide more durability.
Using Twistruss technology, the construction of the shoe’s underfoot plate aims to resist twisting and provide stability in response to sharp lateral cuts. The forefoot of the new Solution Speed is intended to provide greater comfort and flexibility than its predecessor, while still offering enhanced support during play.
Along with the underfoot technologies, Asics has still embedded its patented gel technology in the midsole.
The Solution Speed FF retails for $130.
