Beneath the Novaro’s country-club style is the soul (and the sole) of great value. It’s a shoe for casual players who would rather hit and giggle than grunt and gasp. Since these players put less stress on their feet than more hard-core competitors, they don’t need the elaborate gladiator armor that comes with high-performance shoes, unless they have a history of foot problems. The Novaro combines a thrifty suggested retail price of $70 (the lowest of the shoes reviewed here) with just enough comfort and stability features, such as a lightweight EVA midsole, a synthetic upper with ample perforations, and a mesh tongue for breathability. It’s perfect for the beginner to 3.0 player who will never be club or city champ and doesn’t care.
