Gear Review

K-Swiss exemplifies the lighter-is-better revolution in tennis shoes. Ten years ago, the men’s K-Swiss Defier GSX tipped the scale at 18 ounces, almost a third more than the men’s K-Force. Besides the light weight, you’ll notice the shoe sits up a little higher in the heel than in the toe, which is good and bad. The lifted heel pitches your weight forward so you’re in the ready position, but it also increases the risk of you turning an ankle while you move side to side. The Shock-Spring padding in the heel makes the K-Force a wise choice for players suffering from painful heel spurs or Achilles’ tendon problems. Consider the K-Force a good choice for older 2.5 to 4.0 players, especially those golden baseline retrievers with sore paws.
