The Swoosh brand takes a dynamic step forward with the Air Max Cage. The herringbone outsole offers reinforced rubber and a mix of traction patterns for grip on multiple surfaces. High-pressure Max Air cushioning provides lightweight, sturdy cushioning. A one-piece TPU-injected upper offers support without weighing down the shoe. In the past, weartesters have praised Nike’s performance while pointing to a narrow fit as a Nike weakness. That is not the case with this shoe, which is wider than the Air Max Ballistec 4.3 and Nike Zoom Vapor 9 Tour, creating a roomier fit. Nike has blended the right balance of comfort, performance and playability to create one of its top tennis shoes we’ve tested in recent years. “If Nike could thin out the padded tongue, it would reduce the weight a bit and the shoe would be even better,” Dr. Sharnoff said. Women weartesters raved about the Air Max Cage’s comfort and fit right out of the box, scoring it a 10 in break-in time.
