Gear Review

The Pitch
The Völkl Organix 1 features a slew of technologies, including Organix, a cellulose material that dampens vibrations and increases stability, as well as the Bio Sensor, a handle design that also works to eliminate vibration for more comfort. But by far the most conspicuous technology is the Power Arm. Located in the racquet’s throat, the Power Arm acts as a free-moving lever that absorbs energy upon impact; according to the company, as the ball leaves the string bed, the Arm releases that stored energy, propelling shots with greater velocity.

How It Tested
The Organix 1’s extensive head and unorthodox throat, at first glance, raised more than a few eyebrows. But after trying it, playtesters began to see reason for the madness. Players with slow, compact strokes said that the string bed had a generous, trampoline-like sweet spot, which added depth and sting to their volleys and groundstrokes. What’s more, many appreciated the 1’s extra reach, especially when returning balls out of position. “It has a big head, but it’s not too heavy,” said a 3.0 playtester. While the 1, like most game-improvement racquets, isn’t suited for heavy hitters with extensive strokes, it should do the trick for players whose priority is to juice up their games.

Bottom Line
Copious power for players with punchy swings, as well as those who lack mobility on the court.
