No they do not celebrate any holidays, only wedding anniversaries.

| Congratulations to Serena! She looked focused from the very start. Considering all the injuries of some of the players, it still was a good tournament. I can't wait until 2010!

| I'm confused as to how they determine who is entered into their YEC.
Why was Clijsters not involved?
Do they invite based solely on rankings?
I know the men's side judges by rankings, but if you win a Slam, you're an automatic in the YEC....I am assuming judging by Clijsters' absence that the women's side does not do the same thing?
I missed Kim, would have liked to have seen her in this tourney.

Only the top eight are invited to the YEC. If having a Major intitled one to have entry, then Maria she have been there too ! Clijsters is not ranked there. Also, I did not know that the men had a year end tournament ?
Wiseup.

The men's side has a Year ending Masters's cup.... it is exactly the same idea as the WTA Doha Championship Serena just won. Theirs is the round robin in Shanghai this year that will happen either later this month or early december.
The men's side enters the Top 8 players. However, whoever wins a Slam in the SAME calendar year gets an automatic entry. So, since 3 men won GS titles this yr, there were only 5 other open spots. Occasionally, someone outside the Top 8 wins a Slam and is automatically entered into the year end Masters tournament- which is how Gaston Gaudio got his entrance into it the year he won the FO.

I wonder if Serena was motivated by the fact that decisions regarding her punishment followed this tournament? Here she is, #1 in the world, finishing the championship decisively and saying, "Go ahead, sanction me now." It's always better to let the racquet do the talking. Congrats Serena.

Yeah, I looked into the history of the Masters Cup compared to the year ending championships of the WTA once the point was made as to why Clijsters didn't make the Sony Ericsson Championships. Apparently, the ITF and the ATP had their own separate tournaments once upon a time; they combined and entry to the year-end Masters emphasized both GS performance and yearly ATP performance.
