My boy Murray is back. Winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-1.

Off the court, Murray has signed a five-year deal, worth £15m, to wear Adidas clothing and shoes. After six years with Fred Perry, Murray's new deal will begin in January when he and Laura Robson team up to represent Britain in the Hopman Cup in Perth, his first tournament in the build-up to the Australian Open.

Disappointed he won't be wearing Fred Perry next year.

I admit I was worried when I saw the score board showing 0-3 but a very solid performance (didn't see it but looking from stat and score wise). I hope he wins this!

I think you read it wrong. Murray went 4-0 up in the first set. He seemed to be struggling a little with his back but I don't think it's anything for me to worry about. A tournament isn't the same for me if Murray isn't in it. It would be great if he wins but I'm more concerned about Paris and a win for him in London would be fantastic.

maybe, I only quickly glanced at his score at work so I could have gotten the names reverse. Either way, solid performance after 7 weeks of sitting out. I don't know if he'll win Paris though since he probably want to save his strength for London so a win at Valencia would put him in a good position to reclaim #3 or at least consolidate #4 since he is very close to Del Potro in the race.

I doubt that Fred Perry was able to match the megalith of sportswear's offer. I too enjoyed seeing Perry's insignia on the Scot.

Just noticed that Tsonga retired in his match against Youzhny. Does anyone know what happened? I see that Tsonga won the first set in a tiebreak, but Youzhny won the second set 6-0, and was up 3-0 in the third.

I wonder if he will pull out of Paris, where he's the defending champion? That will be a HUGE hit on his ranking if he loses 1000 points.

Just read on BBC, he retired with a wrist injury.

About his Paris masters win from last year, he has lost his ranking points already this past week end. As a consequence he slipped behind Verdasco in the rankings.

Tsonga played waaaay to much this fall: Bangkok, Tokyo (which he won), Shanghai and last week as well in Lyon where he lost to compatriot Clement, who is not even in top 100 anymore. Valencia was his 5th in less than 2 months!

And they are surprised they get injured and then go on complaining the tour lasts too long.

I think he just compromised his chances to qualify for the YEC.

Thanks for the info!

Yes, I would say he has no chance of making it to London at this point if he doesn't go to Paris.

The Valencia draw looks much trickier than the Basel one. Murray and Davydenko may yet find themselves in the final, but it seems like there are more landmines to that path. Federer and Djokovic should make it more clearly to their finals.

Davydenko and Verdasco both won their 3rd round matches today, so they stay on course to qualify for the YEC.

Interesting that Murray will meet today L. Mayer who was born on the same day and year...

To each his own, but I thought Murray in his 'wolf' state with the long scraggly mop hidden under a cap and the unkempt whiskers is better than this new version with the cropped cut, clean shave and attempt at looking like a presentable pro. His true self is the guy who doesn't try to imitate Beckham in looks. It's just not him. He knows it too. Bring back wolf Murray!

Murray v. Verdasco was a very exciting match today, with Murray eventually prevailing. He looked a little hobbled in the 2nd set, but didn't ask for the trainer, even when the chair offered to have him stand by. He perked back up, though. I'm sorry for Fernando, but nice to see Murray on good form.

Glad to see my boy in the final. Verdasco played really well and Murray did seem to be struggling a little. Getting to the final is better than I could have hoped. I'll be greedy now - I want another title for Andy.

They are very slow. A friend of mine is in Valencia for the tennis. She said the TV doesn't do the venue justice - it's stunning. She also said for an indoor event it is absolutely freezing. She's been watching the tennis with her coat on.

Some people are never happy..lol. I don't think he's trying to imitate Beckham or anybody else. I think he looks fantastic but then again I am a little biased. As long as he wins I don't really care how he looks.

The arena was designed by Santiago Calatrava, a local Valencia boy, and one of the most important architects working today. Here is a photo of the building:

I'm sorry to hear that you can't have beautiful architecture and comfort.

Thanks for the info and the photo. The venue is amazing. I've just had a look at some of Calatrava's work on google - absolutely stunning. I read that the doors at one end of the arena haven't been built yet - that is why it's been so cold. I've seen a lot of the matches this week and the crowds have been really good. Andy has said how beautiful the venue is - just a bit cold for him. I thought as a Scot he would be used to the cold. I think he spends too much time in Miami now.

Thanks again. Go Andy.

Yes, the arena looked very futuristic, from what I could see. And it was packed. Tennis has been developed so much in Spain in the last few decades, that they can invest into such infrastructure, because it will pay off without a doubt. The armada is as strong as ever.

So happy for Murray. Great way to come back from injury. His win has been getting short shrift here while we argue over Djokovic v Federer, but does not go unnoticed.
