| Rafael Nadal's win streak on the dirt keeps getting longer and longer. Although he's not yet near Bjorn Borg's modern-day record of six French Open titles, some are beginning to say that Nadal is building a case for himself as the best clay courter of all time. What do you think?

| I think that in today's game of anyone being able to beat anyone on any given day, (with the exception of Federer, of course), being able to win 67 matches in a row is SUPREMELY impressive. With a few more Roland Garros titles, no doubt he'd be the best. ----- *Neup*

| Well... Nadel can rule the Dirt but, he's still second best. Just like all the other Dirt players you only see them during the dirt season. If Nadel can master the other surfaces then we have a player. and will some one please help that young man find the right under garments... tired of watching him pick his behind on National Television.
I'm just saying...

| IMHO I would say 100% Nadal is the best ever on clay ----- shuvinder ogra (wizard07), Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do.

Well... Nadel can rule the Dirt but,
There is no 'but' to that. The question is if he is the greatest clay courter ever. All other slams and tournaments outside of clay are entirely irrelevant in this discussion.

I still don't think Nadal is what Borg was. I mean sure, it's always hard to compare guys from two different eras. Reason being is that in Borg's time they played different and arguably lower tennis than today. That just comes with the progression of the times and technique though. If we we're comparing the accomplishments on clay between the two during their own fields, I'd put Borg's six over Nadal's two.

what means to be the greatest ever ? In terms of RGs, obviously not yet, he only has two of them, and several playes have obtained far more clay tournaments than Rafa. He is still young, for one thing.
Now, if we are talking about pure level, that is, who would win in a clay tournament including Borg, Muster, Vilas, etc... Nadal is the greatest, he would clearly defeat them all. But that is evolution of tennis, in racuets, technique and muscles, years, different eras...

| I think When Nadal wins some more Roland Garros he will be the best.....To me his win streak doesnt mean that much to me...because he only has 2 RG titles...Other greats have more than that.......he is just one step shy of becoming the best....Winning more RG titles...even if he loses his streak but manages to win roland garros...i will consider him the best

| Well he is the best right now . . . and it is between him and Borg for the best ever on clay. What is remarkable about Borg winning 6 in a row was the fact that there were so many clay court players in those days (Remember even the U.S. Open at Forrest Hills had switched over to clay), so I'd give a slight nedge to Borg but if Nadal wins another one or two French Opens then things change.

| Nadal is the best clay court player right now but Federer is the second best clay courter and is not far behind Nadal. Last year in Rome they had a very close match and any one could have won. At the French the same story.
In Monte carlo even it was a straight victory for Nadal, Federer did not play bad at all.
Nadal played very well but was not one sided.
I think Nadal is at his best on clay now but he is beatable.
Federer is going to give his best at French and is capable to win the French.

| crack, there is best ever over a career, and then there is best ever peak
Nadal with his streak in this day and age has reached a peak clay level that is 100% the best ever. Nadal is not yet the best ever results of a career, but 100% his streak and beating the best tennis player of all time many time in that streak, gives Nadal the best ever clay court player.
Nadal is the best ever over a 2yr span, and growing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ----- shuvinder ogra (wizard07), Any fool can criticize, condemn, and complain - and most fools do.

| You can't make a blanket statement like "those guys would have thrashed nadal". you have no idea and we will never have any idea. Nadal is probably the most offensive clay courter ever and we know if he isn't the best ever he is one of them and could easily be the best ever. Also, Nadal may have tourned pro in 2000 but he wasn't consistently playing then. That's like saying Venus and Serena aren't good becuase they turned pro in 94 yet didn't win majors until 99. It just isn't logical. this is in response the crack

crack, just read my post, would you ? I said in terms of career it is obvious he still is behind, he is too young and clearly his 2 FOs are not enough. That being said, perhaps someone willing to surf the net could tell me if Nadal has accomplished the most on clay compared to the greatedt clayers AT HIS CURRENT AGE. I dont know whats going to come up, really.
Now, as for level, come on, even you can clearly see that Nadal would crush Borg 60 60. Just go to youtube, search a Vilas Borg match... I have done so and the ball goes so slow that I really doubted if they would get my own best forehand... I know you love to discuss with me but their levels are not comparable, in technique, strength, etc.
In my opinion, Nadal has taken the game a step up in terms of physical fitness and use, and there is no way back.

| there is no way that Nadal could be compared with Borg...Now...Borg would be lucky to get a point off Nadal....this is because tennis back then and now are two different things....now its more powerful and aggressive compared to tennis back then

| There is a tendency to take current events in a grandiose way, and forget about the past (there is this saying that nothing is as old as yesterday's newspaper). For those of us who were active in tennis at Borg's time, I guess it's different. I still remember the press conferences after Borg's matches in Roland Garros; the guys were simply in awe; there was one South African player (his name eludes me right now) who was so puzzled; he said something like Borg was simply on another level and that he actually looked bored during their match (Borg defeated the guy 6-1, 6-1, 6-0). I believe the only way to compare one player to another is by their achievements in their time. And if that is so, Nadal is still a long way behind Borg in clay, not to mention that the guy used to have the habit of finishing Roland Garros and go all the way to win Wimbledon (a "habit" that punished the rest of the players 5 times). Of course if Nadal could be sent through a time machine to Borg's era with his current physique and modern rackets, he would most likely beat the swede fairly easily, but that kind of comparison is irrelevant. Anyone who has seen old films of the mighty Laver playing would know that most players in today's top 50 ranking would beat him fair and square.

| Nadal is the best clay court player now. He is not the best ever yet. Borg has won six French and Nadal has two. We have to wait and see what he can accomplice in next few years. Federer is #1 by far and has ten Grand Slams. Nadal is clear #2 but he has only two Grand Slams and those on clay only. We will see what Nadal can do in coming few years. At the moment there is not much comparision between Federer and Nadal. This all talk is about clay only. if Nadan wins more Grand Slams other then French, thenwe will start comparing him with other champions like Federer and Sampras. The clay court winning streak does not mean too much now. Nadal has potential to be a great player in future.

| Once again soo true.....theres a reason why Federer is number 1..and one of the greatest no matter what...because he has multiple grand slams....and there is a reason why NADAL is # 2 because he has one type of slam.....as for on clay he atop with the greatest clay courters.....but when i will cosider him "the" greatest is when he wins at least 3 more RG......although his streak is good...can u imagine if it reaches 100....now that would be something

| rafa is definately not the greatest ever...he only has 2 GS & that's on the same surface...he definately the best on clay though he's almost 20 over vilas' record of 53 when he gets to rome he'll add another 5 & he'll be on his way to prove that he's unstoppable

| Although Nadal is a very good player he is no where close to becoming one of the greatest player ever.....on clay he is close but overall he isnt...he needs to win other grand slam titles and not just RG....I think he is one of the greatest clay court player but has one problem....just 2 RG titles....thinking of it Nadal can become one of the greatest.....he is still very young and even if he only wins RG titles for the next 8 years....he will be great...he would have 10 grand slam titles...no matter what...having ten(same) grand slams is good....he is still young so anything can happen in the future

| What is winning another Grand Slam besides RQ have to do with the question? None of the other three are played on clay! The guestion is not if he is the best tennis player ever (which he is not) but is he the best clay court player ever! Again, right now it is between him and Borg and I give the nod to Borg because he won all those French Opens but Nadal is closing and this run of over 70 straight matches on clay is really something.

I repeat, the only way to compare those two is to match each other titles up to current Nadal age, and try to deduct a trend. Borg retired 6 years later than Nadal present 20s.

| I agree with gongoozler's view. Nadal at tha moment the best clay court player,no doubt about it. Regarding the best ever on clay he has many more years to prove. He has to match Borg's records of six RGs, including five in a row. I think Nadal is the most dominant on clay. Borg also had the ability to switch playing style from clay court to grass court. I think his six French open and five wimbledon records will be impossible to break. He is the best on clay now but there are many very close clay court players. Nadal will win couple of more RGs bou i don't think he will be able to match Borg's records. His winning streak on clay could be longest ever.
