Juan Ignacio Chela excels on clay, and has won all six of his ATP tour titles on that surface. He achieved a career-high No. 15 in 2004, the year he advanced to the French Open quarterfinals. He was also a quarterfinalist at the 2007 U.S. Open. In 2001, Chela tested positive for a banned steroid at the Cincinnati Masters and was suspended for three months. Chela won two titles in 2010. He reached the 2011 final in his hometown of Buenos Aires, falling to Nicolas Almagro, and advanced to the 2011 Roland Garros quarterfinals. Chela registered his eighth season-ending top 40 ranking in the last 10 years. Known as "El Flaco" ("The Skinny One"), Chela reached a career-high rank of No. 14 in August, 2004. Chela announced his retirement on Twitter on December 3, 2012.
