Igor Andreev's best results have come on clay, but in recent years he has shown improved play across all surfaces. In possession of a monster forehand, Andreev reached the fourth round at the 2008 U.S. Open and at Wimbledon in 2009. He achieved a career-high ranking of No. 18 in 2008. All three of his titles—on clay at Valencia and Palermo and on carpet in Moscow—came in 2005. His best result at a major is a quarterfinal showing at Roland Garros in 2007. Andreev once dated WTA tour player Maria Kirilenko of Russia. Andreev retired on September 18, 2013 with the distinction of being one of the few men to beat Rafael Nadal on red clay in Spain at the 2005 Valencia tournament.
