Alize Cornet posted her best showing at a Slam by reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open in 2009. She reached a career-high ranking of No. 11 that same year. A winner at Budapest in 2008, the former Roland Garros junior champion also represented France in the 2008 Olympics. Cornet defeated Yanina Wickmayer, 7-5, 7-6 (1), in Bad Gastein the final to collect her second career title in June, 2012. She won her third career title at Strasbourg in May, 2013. In February, 2014, the 26th-ranked Cornet upset world No. 1 Serena Williams—her first win over a world No. 1 and one she called "definitely the biggest win of my career"—to reach her first career hard-court final in Dubai where she lost to Venus Williams. Cornet was 0-17 vs. Top 4-ranked players before upsetting Serena. On April 13, 2014, Cornet saved a match point before beating Camila Giorgi, 7-6 (3), 5-7, 7-5 in a three hour, 11-minute final to win the Katowice Open for her fourth career WTA title.
