Dominic Thiem established himself as a force on the ATP tour in 2015, winning three titles (in Nice, Umag and Gstaad). A year later he won titles in Buenos Aires, Acapulco, Nice and Stuttgart, and after reaching the semifinals of the French Open, he made his debut inside the Top 10. The Austrian is an aggressive baseliner who defends very well. He utilizes a heavy forehand and generates power on his one-handed backhand. Thiem has a very good serve and is a solid volleyer, though he doesn’t come to the net often. He’s especially dangerous on clay, postings win against Rafael Nadal, Stan Wawrinka and Roger Federer on that surface. With his title in Stuttgart in 2016, Thiem became the ninth active player—and 29th player in the Open era—to win three titles on three different surfaces in the same year.
