A versatile player, Novak Djokovic has reached the semifinals or better of each Grand Slam. In winning the 2008 Australian Open, he became the first player besides Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal to win a major since 2005, when Marat Safin won the Australian Open. Djokovic also reached the final of the 2007 U.S. Open. Nicknamed ‘Nole,’ the Serb has spent extended periods of time as the No. 3 player in the world, but has never been ranked higher. He has claimed five Masters titles, reached six other Masters finals, and won the 2008 Tennis Masters Cup. Djokovic won the bronze medal in singles at the 2008 Olympics. His parents, Srdjan and Dijana, are often a vocal presence in his player’s box. With their help, the family purchased the Las Vegas tournament from the ATP and created the Serbia Open, which Djokovic won in 2009 (its inaugural year). Djokovic’s brother, Marko, is also a pro player. (as of November 17, 2009)
