The powerful young German had a breakthrough season in 2009, winning her first career title in Charleston (on clay) and reaching the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, her best-ever result at a Grand Slam. On her way to the last eight at the All England Club, Lisicki defeated the No. 5 seed Svetlana Kuznetsova and the No. 9 seed Caroline Wozniacki before falling to top-seeded Dinara Safina. Lisicki’s serve is one of the most powerful in the WTA. She lives and trains at the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla. (as of November 17, 2009)
