Heroic Nalbandian overcomes 'worst thing in my life'
In Argentina, an injured David Nalbandian overcomes Romanian Adrian Ungur 6-3, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in the opening rubber of a Davis Cup tie despite suffering from a hernia.
"I can’t walk a single step," said the Argentine, who wept after the victory. "I thought I would be in better shape, but I have felt really bad since the first set. I could finish the match because this is Davis Cup. If it were a tournament from the tour, I would have retired in the second set. But here, I play for my country, with my people supporting me and that is a great motivation...It was one of the worst things that happened to me in my life."
Later, Juan Monaco took out Victor Hanescu 7-6(5), 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 to give Argentina a 2-0 lead. —Matthew Cronin
