Serena gets a nod on "Modern Family"
Less than a week after the grunting in women's tennis made a mark on NBC's "The Office," Serena Williams was shouted out alongside a few other powerful women on ABC's "Modern Family," which just picked up five Emmy Awards, including those for best writing and best comedy series, its second straight victory in that category.
See the show's latest episode, titled "Hit and Run," here in full. Or just jump ahead to the 6:00 mark for the scene, and to 7:00 for that particular quip.
It's not the first time that Serena has been sent up on a primetime TV show. She got the "True Blood" treatment in that campy vampire dramedy's first season, in its eighth episode titled "Fourth Man in the Fire." Not shockingly, it's another grunting reference.
For its minor-sport status, tennis sure is doing all right in the television realm. Still not sold on that? There's always this brief-but-funny deleted scene from FOX's "Family Guy".
And on those "notes," I bid you adieu.
