Wonky Pre-Wimbledon Gossip
Much is afoot in pro tennis on the eve of the Wimbledon draw announcements, and the London tabloids are only a bit involved. Here's a rundown of the latest:
To Petra, With Lob: Martina Navratilova gave Petra Kvitova some advice on handling her first Grand Slam final, when she dismantled Maria Sharapova in last year's Wimbledon final, but both are remaining tight-lipped about the content of their exchange. The Spin is sure it was significantly better than Kvitova's apparent strategy of late, praying that her missiles land in.
Fed Blasts Deutsch Olympic Standards: When Roger Federer speaks up, people who matter typically listen. Let's hope so in this preposterous case. His points about Philipp Kohlschreiber and Tommy Haas' recent victories over himself and Rafael Nadal should be well taken. The ball is quite literally in your court, Germany.
Speaking of Rafa: Nadal will carry the Spanish flag in the Olympic opening ceremonies in London, joining fellow tennis stars Novak Djokovic, Federer, and Sharapova who will or yet-hope-to fill this acclaimed position for their respective nations.
Roger + Mirka Strut London: The famous pair were photographed on the city street. The high-top treads, that sweater—Roger looks, well, absolutely masterful. In that respect, there is absolutely nothing new under the sun.
Wait! Wozniacki Won a Slam? Indeed, if the UK's Daily Mail is to be believed. And, in this case, it's not.
Enjoy wheezing and whining (and rejoicing?) during and after the Wimbledon draw ceremony, all. The Spin knows how you fans are wired, for the Spin is wired much the same.
