Petkovic out of Olympics with injury
Germany's Andrea Petkovic will miss the London Olympics as her ankle injury has yet to heal. The world No. 18 was forced to pull out of Roland Garros and Wimbledon due to the same injury. Petkovic tore ligaments in her ankle at Stuttgart in April after having just returned from a back injury.
"Really sorry to announce that I will not be competing at the Olympic Games," she said on Twitter. "I'm heartbroken and sad as can be but I'm just not ready yet."
Petkovic was one of four German women to qualify for the Olympics, along with Angelique Kerber, Sabine Lisicki, and Julia Goerges. The decision for Petkovic's replacement rests with the ITF, which could choose Germans Mona Barthel or Anna-Lena Groenefeld, or go with a player from another country.
On Wednesday the ITF nominated Colombia's Mariana Duque-Marino to replace Estonia's Kaia Kanepi, who is injured.
