Friday Fourhand: Ferrero waves goodbye, Baghdatis says hello & more

[1] DADDY'S GIRL Good luck not melting into a dimple-loving puddle when you see this photo of new father Marcos Baghdatis and baby daughter, Zahara, the first human product of his marriage to WTA pro Karolina Sprem.

[2] THE MOSQUITO BITES THE DUST Juan Carlos Ferrero, the 2003 French Open champ, retired from professional play this week with his loss at the ATP stop in Valencia, Spain—where he lays his head—to compatriot Nicolas Almagro. Bless him, the classy one who observers of the sport called The Mosquito (and for a time always served to remind me of that word that won me an elementary school spelling bee). "He is the only tennis player who has made me feel inferior," Ferrero said of one now-former colleague. Guess whom?

[3] SAMMY SOSA STOSUR In news of the whack, Samantha Stosur served a home run to Sara Errani this week, and not in a good way. See the video here.

**4] ISTAN-BULL IN A CHINA SHOP** Eight women—with Petra Kvitova and Stosur sort of comprising a solid whole, as this makeshift round-robin format goes—have vied for semifinal berths in Turkey. And for glory on this sharp signage tweeted to the #DailySpin by [@Michel_Jabbour. Thanks, always, for your submissions of anything and everything, Spin friends.

Have a smashing weekend watching the WTA Championships.
