Celeb Watch: Spacey, McKellen light up London WTFs

Justin Gimelstob caught up with screen and stage star Kevin Spacey at the ATP's World Tour Finals in London yesterday. Spacey, an American residing in London, answers a thoughtful question here on the similarities between actors and sportsmen, tennis players specifically, and considers how both perform their jobs knowing that they are being watched, and by thousands or even millions each time. He also talks about about Andy Murray's defeat of Novak Djokovic for this maiden Grand Slam title at last September's U.S. Open.

"Nothing against Djokovic, he's extraordinary and I, on any other night, would have been supporting him, but it felt so much like it was Murray's time," Spacey said. More here:

A reporter at the WTFs sat down with Sir Ian McKellen as well, posing a similar query to him about how a thespian thinks of a tennis star's mindset before the crowd in a venue such as the O2 Arena. The actor, who has portrayed characters ranging from J.R.R. Tolkien's Gandalf to X-Men's Magneto to an aging Hollywood auteur in Gods and Monsters, responds with typical aplomb and grace. He also shares at glowing length about his favorite male player to watch live, and speaks well to compatriot Murray's evolution: "I just passed him in the corridor. He looks even taller than I thought, and more like a man than a boy, which I suppose in front of our eyes he has become, hasn't he? I wish him well."
