Venus Williams pulls out of Madrid Open

MADRID (AP)—Venus Williams has withdrawn from the Madrid Open because of back problems.

The American was set to open the tournament Sunday.

Switzerland's Stefanie Voegele took Williams' place in the first round against Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain.
