Arruabarrena defeats fifth-seeded Svitolina in Seoul

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) Unseeded Lara Arruabarrena of Spain advanced to the second round of the Korea Open by beating fifth-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 Monday.

The 113th-ranked Arruabarrena had lost to Svitolina in their only previous meeting in New Haven this year.

Also, third-seeded Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia defeated Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.

Sixth-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany, Alexandra Dulgheru of Romania and Vera Dushevina of Russia also advanced.
