Li Na has qualified for this year’s WTA Championships, to be played in Istanbul, Turkey, from October 22-27.  Li is the fifth player to qualify for the event joining Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka, Maria Sharapova and Agnieszka Radwanska.

Sharapova, who has only played one match since Wimbledon due to shoulder bursitis, is considered questionable for the event. She was runner-up to Serena Williams at the 2012 WTA Championships.

This year, the 31-year-old Li won Shenzhen, advanced to her third career Grand Slam final at the Australian Open, reached the Stuttgart final and the U.S. Open semifinals for the first time.

Some other players in contention for the last three to four spots in Istanbul include Sara Errani, Petra Kvitova, Jelena Jankovic, Angelique Kerber, Roberta Vinci and Sloane Stephens.
