Almagro reaches second round in Buenos Aires

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP)—Fourth-seeded Nicolas Almagro of Spain defeated Horacio Zeballos of Argentina 6-2, 7-5 Wednesday to reach the second round of the Copa Claro clay-court tournament.

Almagro has won 12 ATP titles — all on clay — and six have come on the annual Latin American swing.

Fifth-seeded Marcel Granollers was upset by fellow Spaniard Pablo Anduar 6-3, 6-0.

Eight-seeded Jeremy Chardy of France advanced over Alejandro Gonzalez of Colombia 6-4, 7-5. No. 3 seed Tommy Robredo rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over wild card Guido Pella.

Other unseeded players advancing on Wednesday included Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine and Daniel Gimeno-Traver of Spain.
