GUANGZHOU, China (AP)—Romania's Monica Niculescu took advantage of a dozen double-faults by Alize Cornet to beat the Frenchwoman 6-4, 6-0 to win the Guangzhou Open on Saturday.

The No. 60-ranked Niculescu captured the second WTA Tour title of her career, following her win in Florianopolis last year.

The Romanian didn't drop a set all week and only lost 17 games in five matches.

The two players traded breaks throughout the tight first set before Niculescu was finally able to close it out. The second-seeded Cornet then faded in the second set, winning only four points on her serve and getting broken three times.

Niculescu permitted just 17 games en route to the title.

"I had a good feeling about this tournament when I entered it," Niculescu told WTATennis.com. "I think it's very tough to play against me because I put many balls back and run a lot and fight for every ball—I think in this heat and humidity it's definitely not easy to play against me."
