The WTA Tour will hold a new event named the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai, China, for Top 20 players who do not qualify for the WTA Finals.
The tournament will be played the week following the WTA Finals and consist of twelve players, including one wildcard, and six doubles teams, with prize money of $2.25 million.
The Tournament of Champions, an event with a similar format for players with victories at smaller, International-level events, will no longer be held.
There will be a custom-designed facility for the event, which will be the sixth WTA-level tournament in China.
