The WTA has appointed Micky Lawler of Octagon as president of the organization.

"As we embark on a new strategic business plan to support our members' business and increase our fan base, I cannot think of a better executive to join our senior leadership team," said WTA CEO Stacey Allaster in a statement.

Lawler was a longtime employee in charge of the tennis division at Octagon, and also sat on the WTA Board. Her increasing involvement on the board led to her taking this position with agreement from Octagon, she said.

Lawler will be based at the WTA headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida, responsible for "international growth strategy, business development, marketing and new fan engagement programs, and member and industry relations," the WTA said in announcing the position.
