Sabine Lisicki is hoping to be named for a singles match in the Fed Cup final against the Czech Republic, to be played in Prague on November 8-9.

World No. 10 Angelique Kerber is expected to play singles, with the other spot likely going to Lisicki or Andrea Petkovic. Petkovic won the Tournament of Champions in Sofia this week.

German captain Barbara Rittner announced her team last week, bringing in Lisicki over Anna-Lena Groenfeld for doubles, which she could play with Julia Goerges.

“It was a difficult decision to take but Sabine has had some good results in Asia and America. She's a good alternative," said Rittner.

The hard courts in Prague are expected to play fast, to play to the strengths of the Czech Republic’s two-time Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova.

Lisicki has played reasonably well during the fall, winning the Hong Kong final over Czech Karolina Pliskova, who has also been named for the Fed Cup final. But the former Wimbledon finalist lost five of her last nine matches in the season. “I guess 6 tournaments in a row was a bit too much in the end,” Lisicki wrote on Twitter. “A few days off now and then back to work!”
