Vasek Pospisil has dropped from his career-high ranking of No. 25 to No. 63, but said he is playing better overall. The 24-year-old will play for Canada against Japan in Davis Cup this week. Last year, Japan beat Canada in Tokyo, where Kei Nishikori won both of his singles matches. Canada’s top player, Milos Raonic, was injured and did not participate. Pospisil traveled, but was also injured and could not play.

This year, both Raonic and Pospisil are healthy and will play in Vancouver. Nishikori, currently at a career-high ranking of No. 4, just won Memphis and lost in the final of Acapulco, will also play.

Pospisil has not won a lot of matches this year. He fell early in Sydney, Rotterdam, Marseille and Dubai, but reached the third round of the Australian Open. Since reaching the final in Washington last August, he finished out the rest of the year with 7 wins and 9 losses.

"I feel like I’m playing really well right now," Pospisil told *The Province*. "I’m improving every week and I’m a better tennis player every time I step on the court. I’ve had a good start to the year, some solid results but not going too deep. I just feel like with the way I’m able to play now, and the confidence I have, I’m just waiting for a bit of a breakthrough.”

The 6-foot-4 Canadian added that he has to play more forcefully. "Tennis is played like Ping-Pong," Pospisil said. "It’s very fast now and if you don’t play aggressive it’s difficult to break through. With my height and physical qualities, I need to be aggressive, even in the big points."
