MILAN (AP) — Next month's Fed Cup match between the United States and Italy will be played in Brindisi, with both countries vying to return to the tournament's top tier.
The best-of-five series will be played in the southern Italian city on April 18-19.
Led by Serena and Venus Williams, the Americans beat Argentina 4-1 in Buenos Aires last month to advance to the playoff round. Italy squandered a 2-0 lead and lost to France 3-2 in Genoa in the first round of the World Group.
Italy has dominated recently against the United States, winning the 2009 and 2010 finals. The Americans have not won in Italy in 16 years.
