ESTORIL, Portugal (AP) Fifth-seeded Richard Gasquet of France beat Marinko Matosevic of Australia 7-6 (7), 6-1 in the first round of the Estoril Open on Tuesday.
Gasquet hit nine aces and converted all three breaks chances he had to advance to a second-round match against qualifier Kenny De Schepper. De Schepper beat Gastao Elias 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Seventh-seeded Nick Kyrgios outlasted Albert Ramos-Vinolas 6-3, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) in two hours, 14 minutes.
Nicolas Almagro of Spain ousted Stephane Robert 6-3, 7-6 (4) to earn a meeting with fourth-seeded Leonardo Mayer.
