Petra Kvitova says she is ready to get back on court, having taken a six-week break from the game.

The Czech withdrew from Indian Wells, citing exhaustion, and also did not play Miami. She returned this week to play against France in Fed Cup. In a column for BBC Sport, Kvitova said she was happy with her decision. "I had never taken time off when I wasn't injured but I really felt I was exhausted, not only physically but mentally. I made the decision that I would miss Indian Wells before I stepped on the court in Doha and I think it was the right thing to do," she said.

Kvitova said her coach suggested she take a break when she told him at the beginning of the season that she was not enjoying playing. "I didn't always feel physically bad, I was able to play, but I wasn't there 100 percent."

"I was on my way from Dubai to Doha in February when the idea arrived on my phone, and I spent four days and nights thinking about it—I didn't really sleep well. It was a very big decision," she said.

The two-time Wimbledon champion did not hit for four weeks. She took a beach vacation, returned home to Monaco for a week and then returned to training.

"In the fourth week I was back in the gym on my own getting ready for my fitness trainer to arrive, and then we added the tennis as well," she said. "I'm so happy to be back on court, practicing and looking forward to playing matches again. That's a great feeling and tells me I made the right decision."

Kvitova is currently No. 5 in the WTA rankings.
