Former No. 1 Victoria Azarenka is not satisfied with her current No. 31 ranking, she told the press in Madrid. Azarenka, who lost to Serena Williams after having three match points in Madrid, has said that she wants to become No. 1 again, but that will take quite a while to get back.

"I can definitely tell you I don't feel like lower than 30-whatever I'm ranked at the moment. Ranking to me is always a reflection of your progress, of how well you do, how much you improve," Azarenka said. "For me right now, that's where I'm at. It's not something where I'm satisfied with being.

"Right now I'm still focused on improving my game and playing as many matches as possible and winning big tournaments. The ranking will come after that. Right now, because of my ranking, I just keep getting the toughest draws, but that's okay."

The Belarusian still feels that if she is playing well, she can beat anyone. She hasn't won a tournament this season, but has beaten Caroline Wozniacki, Venus Williams, Angelique Kerber, and other top players, and has generally lost to top competition.

"I just believe in myself that I can play against anybody and have a chance of winning against anybody, so that's how I try to look at it," she said. "I feel I've been on the right track for a while. Just the process is that of improvement."
