Rafael Nadal is aiming for a strong second half of the season, seeing it as part of a longer campaign to get back to the top of the men's game.

The 29-year-old was sidelined by a series of injuries and illness in 2014, and had mixed results in the tournaments leading into his quarterfinal defeat at the French Open—the nine-time champion's second loss ever in Paris.

However, Nadal indicated that this year's exit to top seed Novak Djokovic was more easily accepted than his 2009 defeat in the fourth round to Robin Soderling, when he was affected by family problems and a knee injury.

"I was not happy," he said, "But at the same time... you know, 2009 I did the right things before Roland Garros. This year I didn't make the right things before Roland Garros so was not surprised. There is another player who was playing better than me in that moment."

Last week, Nadal switched to grass and win Stuttgart. "I have the motivation to be back to my best. After what happened in Roland Garros, have the chance to win the title the week after is very good news for me," he said.

Nadal is now looking to be consistent to set himself up for 2016. "My main goal is finish the season healthy," the Spaniard said, "Have the chance to play the full season. I am confident that I can play, I gonna have a much better second half of the season."

He insists that capturing another Grand Slam title is not what he is concentrating on at the moment. "[The] first goal is to be in the World Tour Finals," Nadal said. "Winning Grand Slams or not, I won enough into my career. Fourteen are enough. I am sure that I gonna keep trying my best."

Despite everything, Nadal noted he is still among the world's best players. Ranked No. 4 at the beginning of the season, he fell to No. 10 following the French Open, but now has fewer points to defend the rest of the year.

"If I am able to be at No. 10 in the world playing that bad, you know, if I am able to play a little bit better I will be higher," he said.

Nadal lost 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-4 to Alexandr Dolgopolov in his opening-round match at Queen's Club.
