From appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to winning an ESPY award for Best Breakthrough Athlete less than a week ago, it’s been quite the whirlwind year for Mo’ne Davis. The Philadelphia native captivated sports fans last August through her athleticism and composure when she became the first female pitcher to win a game, and pitch a shutout, in the Little League World Series.

On Monday evening, Davis was invited to join the Philadelphia Freedoms of Mylan WTT as an honorary team member. The 14-year-old was presented an official team jacket and took part in an on-stage conversation with league co-founder Billie Jean King, who told Davis, “You're a woman of few words, if I do say so, but your actions speak very loud.”

Davis, who considers basketball to be her sport of choice, also had the opportunity to sit on the bench alongside King, French Open doubles champion Marcelo Melo and Taylor Townsend among others. The Freedoms went on to snap their six-match losing streak by defeating the Washington Kastles 18-16.

TENNIS.com sat down with Davis ahead of the match for this exclusive Q&A.

Have you ever seen a live tennis match or is this your first experience?

I haven't been to a tennis match before. I just want to see how it goes. I think it'd be pretty fun and I'm looking forward to it. I watched Wimbledon on TV, but I didn't really get it. Hopefully I get it more tonight.

This league is all about emphasizing team. What makes you such a great team player?

I know that my teammates would give all they have. So why shouldn't I give it all? Whatever they give, I give the same.

Billie Jean King states that ‘pressure is a privilege.’ You handled the spotlight with tremendous poise last year. Do you feel you thrive more with a bigger stage?

It shouldn't matter how big the crowd is. Some days you have good games and some you have bad ones. Your performance shouldn't depend on the audience.

Who is your favorite coach, in any sport?

Marc Jackson, even though he doesn't coach right now. He put together my favorite team.

Being from Philadelphia, who in the community inspires you?

Dion Waiters (Oklahoma City Thunder). He actually played for the same team I played for, the Anderson Monarchs. I know both of his sisters, dad and mom. They all played for the same coach that I have. I want to keep going and hopefully I can be successful like they are.
