BACK TO BLACK Perhaps the news of Eugenie Bouchard's decline has not been greatly exaggerated. Now wielding a 2-12 record in her last 14 matches, Bouchard lost in the first round to No. 117-ranked qualifier Duan Ying-Ying of China, 7-6 (6), 6-4. Wimbledon 2014 finalist Bouchard's No. 12 ranking will fall into the 20s at best.

Even worse, she suffered insult to go along with her pride's injury: The chair umpire for her match phoned the tournament referee at one point to see if her black bra, worn another another (white) bra, violated the event's dress code.

Answer: It did not.

SW19 STYLE As Roger Federer dashed around Centre Court during a straight-sets opening victory, Henrik Lundqvist was reportedly looking quite dashing as he took in the action from a lofty perch.

That's a lot of *GQ* goodness in one place.

MORNING BAGELS  Some tennis fans in America were delighted to discover on Monday that Venus Williams had double-bageled her first-round opponent, Madison Brengle. It was the first double-bagel recorded in women's singles at Wimbledon in six years, and Venus' first on this surface since—get this—her first-ever match on grass. That came against No. 89-ranked German Wiltrud Probst at the Eastbourne event in 1997, the first of Venus' six double-bagel victories to date. (Notably, she embarrassed an on-the-rebound Mirjana Lucic-Baroni like so in the 2002 U.S. Open's first round, when ML-B was ranked No. 214.)

Oddly enough, Monday's Venus victory was followed soon enough by Andrea Petkovic's own double-bagel showing. Even more odd, their dismissed foes were Americans Brengle and Shelby Rogers, respectively.
