It's not often that a player turns heads in reaction to his or her sartorial sense during a tournament outside the majors. But that's just what Agnieszka Radwanska did to shimmering effect last week at the WTA tour's stop in Toronto. It just goes to show that a player who is crafty by nature with her shot selection can also be strategic with what she selects to sport on court. Two words: disco frock.

Responses to the dress varied. Says here the black-and-gold number was a lovely tribute ... to Purdue University. A female friend chimed in via text, though: "It looks like someone vomited metallic on a show-choir outfit." Now that's vivid.

But that's Radwanska in a nutshell: Be it a trick shot or a style choice, she's forever keeping on-court foes and the public at large guessing. Sure, she might struggle with some so-American slang terms. Still, she always bounces back, turning the tables by imparting the wisdom of some common Polish sayings. (Good luck to you in pronouncing them—or, perhaps, ever needing them.)
