SOLVE A PROBLEM LIKE MARIA After pulling out of the Rogers Cup in Toronto with an injury, Maria Sharapova returns to WTA action this week in Cincinnati. Before that, she plays favorites in a new video from Head, one of her litany of sponsors. In the clip, we learn that she prefers Beyonce to Lady Gaga and spaghetti to sushi (in a close call). THE COMEBACK Victoria Duval has quietly returned to action herself, that after a 13-month absence due to Hodgkin's lymphoma treatment and recovery. Word is she played a three-set practice match just two weeks ago to test her stamina, and she hopes to snare a U.S. Open wild card yet.

About that major, where she famously upset former winner Samantha Stosur in 2013, Duval says, "There's nothing quite like it, being an American at the U.S. Open. ... The U.S. Open is the closest tournament to my heart. That's where my biggest memories in tennis are, so I can't wait to make a few more."

ICYMI  Yoshihito Nishioka hit one of the top shots of the 2015 season in the Aptos Challenger event in California. CAREER HIGH In what may be a first at a pro-level tournament, a player complained about the wafting smell of marijuana use beside the court. That was none other than Novak Djokovic, who brought it to the chair umpire's attention during his Montreal semifinal against Jeremy Chardy, and who had smelled the same pungent aroma at a doubles match earlier. Djokovic reported that he was getting dizzy off of it, and later said, "Whoever it is, I hope he doesn't come back tomorrow. He's probably on the seventh sky somewhere."

The ATP World Tour's No. 1 star then lost the Montreal final to Andy Murray, who hadn't beaten him since the 2013 Wimbledon final.
