It was a bad night on the job for Sloane Stephens, who almost literally flew off the handle. Fresh off her Citi Open win in Washington, D.C., the first title of her career, Stephens lost her opening-round match at the Rogers Cup in Toronto—but not before delivering this memorable racquet smash:

To the victor went the match, and that was Dominika Cibulkova, who collected a 6-3, 6-4 victory despite still being on the mend after injury.

Stephens' display recalled Agnieszka Radwanska's sort-of-similar incident against Kimiko Date-Krumm at the 2011 Australian Open. It was not anger but rather pure surprise and confusion that owned the moment.

Stephens' momentum was disrupted earlier than she hoped, but her acting out nearly leads us at the Daily Spin to think we could embark on a Racquet Smash Watch each week. It's starting to seem that rubric would truly feed itself.
