Stan Wawrinka was furious with Nick Kyrgios for his on-court comments Wednesday night in Montreal, in which the Aussie alleged that Thanasi Kokkinakis had slept with Wawrinka's girlfriend. The Swiss is rumored to be dating 19-year-old Donna Vekic.

During the second set in their second-round match in Montreal, Kyrgios said: "Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend. Sorry to tell you that, mate."

Kyrgios won the match when Wawrinka retired down 6-7 (8), 6-3, 4-0 with a back injury. On court with Sportsnet's broadcaster Arash Madani, Kyrgios said, "He was getting a bit lippy with me. Kind of in the heat of the moment. I don’t know. I just said it."

Wawrinka’s coach, Magnus Norman, tweeted:

Wawrinka went to Twitter with:

“Disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine. What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy. To stop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief… There is no need for this kind of behavior on or off the court and I hope the governing body of this sport does not stand... for this and stands up for the integrity of this sport that we have worked so hard to build.”

Later, in the press room, Kyrgios said, "We were having an exchange and it was the heat of the match... It happened I am not going to deny it."

Wawrinka told press: "He tried to avoid me, but I confronted him."

Nick’s mother, Nill, tweeted: "A sledge for a sledge...do your research before piping up like sheep!" She has since deleted her account.
