NEW YORK—Following a leg injury, Caroline Wozniacki won three matches at the Connecticut Open in New Haven and feels fit again. The Dane had lost in the opening round of Stanford, Toronto, and Cincinnati, yet now believes she has a legitimate chance to go far at the U.S. Open.

In New Haven, Wozniacki overcame Roberta Vinci in a third-set tiebreak and crushed Caroline Garcia, 6-3, 6-0, before falling to Petra Kvitova in straight sets. She also defeated Alison Riske.
“I have been struggling with injuries, which has held me back. But now, I am feeling 100 percent. I am feeling good,” Wozniacki said. “I always go into a tournament believing that I can do well and win. Last week, I showed that I can play at a high level. There is no doubt that I play tennis at a high level when I am fit and when I can practice well. I am here. I am here to win and do well.”
Wozniacki hopes that she can once again face Serena Williams in the final, which would be a repeat of last year's title match. Williams won that match, 6-3, 6-3.
“I respect everything Serena has done in her career. She is obviously a great player, a great person and a great champion,” Wozniacki said. “What she is about to do and what she has done for the sport is amazing. I am in the other half of the draw, so I don’t have to worry about it until the final. Hopefully, we can do a rerun from last year.”
